Michael C. Spoor named
President of NewStream LLC
We are pleased to officially welcome Michael
(Mike) Spoor as President of NewStream. Mike has been serving as Acting
President since August 2007,
and
has been a trusted advisor to CEO, Sam Butterfield, since the vision for the
Company was first formed in 2003. Since taking on the role of Acting
President in 2007, Mike has already made significant contributions to the
success of NewStream, including:
Complete restructuring of the Company’s accounting system for improved
financial management and performance tracking
Product development, marketing and distribution for NewStream’s entry into the
recycled antifreeze and glycol recovery markets
Completion of NewStream’s new biological treatment system and other capital
projects
Oversight of new business development initiatives
Mike brings extensive business development and management experience to his
position at NewStream. Prior to joining NewStream, he spent nearly 10 years
fully engaged in the development, growth and management of Windward Petroleum
Inc, a wholesale distribution and marketing company that he helped found in
1998. The company’s mission has been to acquire, consolidate and grow numerous
existing petroleum distributorships throughout the eastern United States. Today,
Windward Petroleum has annual revenues of $275 million, employs 430 people, and
operates 18 distribution centers from Oklahoma to Maine.
Mike has been instrumental in the success of Windward Petroleum. Just a few of
his most notable accomplishments are:
Recognizing the need for consolidation in the marketplace, and building an
initial business plan to meet this need
Leading significant integrations of acquired companies
Conceiving, developing and launching a comprehensive Operational Balanced
Scorecard approach to management.
Conceiving, developing and rolling out the company’s Signature Service
initiative involving warehouse, delivery and customer service teams; and aimed
at fundamentally improving customer satisfaction and retention.
Creating and managing a detailed monthly operating budget, including the
development of the necessary reports and processes.
Previously, Mike spent seven years at Exxon Co., USA, where he was consistently
rated as the top performer. He also worked internationally in Melbourne,
Australia for Camp Scott Furphy Pty. Ltd., a multinational environmental
consulting firm.
In his role at NewStream, Mike is overseeing all aspects of business development
and daily operations. Mike says he is most looking forward to joining the rest
of the NewStream team in their ongoing quest for excellence in environmental and
resource stewardship. He adds, “I see the people, the operations and the
capabilities of NewStream as significant assets for the New England region, and
I envision long term growth opportunities beyond.”
Sam Butterfield says of Mike’s taking on the leadership position, ”It is such a

Mike received a degree in Civil Engineering with highest honors from
Northeastern University in Boston, MA. In addition to his business ventures,
Mike has sat on two outside boards of directors: one non-profit organization,
and one private, for-profit corporation in MA. He also teaches elementary grade
Sunday School, enjoys sailing and lives in Duxbury, Massachusetts with his wife,
Terry, and children, Carly (17) and Christian (14).
