NewStream at NEWEA

NewStream will be an exhibitor at the NEWEA Annual Conference on January 28-30 at the Boston Marriott Copley Plaza Hotel. If you will be attending the show, we invite all you to come and visit us at booth 161.

As we begin a new year at NewStream, we are excited to be taking part in this event as it is one of the most widely attended water environment events in New England. Last year, 1660 people attended the conference, and companies from all over the country were represented. By exhibiting at the 2008 conference, we hope to make new contacts in the industry, and also speak to our existing customers and colleagues about the exciting changes that we have made in the past year.

One of the developments that we will be highlighting at the show is our new biological treatment system, which went online in January. The system has been running smoothly, and is allowing us to accept a wider variety of waste streams. (See the Quarter 4, 2007 issue of our newsletter for more details on the biological system.)

Joe Szlachciuk Named Lab Manager

At the start of this year, Joe Szlachciuk, a TI veteran began his new role as Lab Manager for NewStream. Prior to NewStream taking over operations of the wastewater treatment facility in 2005, Joe spent 31 years as a lab technician for TI, first in their lead frame plating department, and then in the wastewater treatment facility. He spent all 31 years working in Building 11, the current home of NewStream. When NewStream acquired the facility, Joe joined the company as a subcontractor, performing a variety of roles in the areas of operations, maintenance, sampling and reporting.

His years of experience made Joe a natural choice for the Lab Manager position, in which his primary functions are quality control and analytical support for daily treatment operations. Specifically, he performs regular analysis of water quality at several points throughout the treatment process, and works to resolve any issues that arise. Joe also assists with the analysis of new streams and development of treatment programs.

Joe is very enthusiastic about his new role at NewStream, and says he is most excited about being instrumental in the successful start-up of the company’s new biological treatment program.

Josh Hanlon Named Technical Director

In January 2008, Josh Hanlon joined the NewStream team as Technical Director. Josh is a shareholder in the company, and has been involved in an advisory role since it was founded, but until now his primary duties have been with NewStream’s partner company Butterfield Environmental Corp (BEC). Josh joined BEC in 2001, and has been instrumental in the steady growth of that company since. He has worked intimately with customers throughout the Northeast, designing complete wastewater treatment systems and upgrades to existing systems, optimizing treatment programs, and providing ongoing technical service.

In his new role as Technical Director at NewStream, Josh will be responsible for qualifying waste streams and designing optimum treatment programs for each stream. He will also be accountable for quality control for each stage of NewStream’s process, from the acceptance of incoming loads through the discharge of effluent. And, he will head up research and development efforts, with the goal of continual optimization of the plant’s processes and equipment.

Josh is enthusiastic about his new role at NewStream, looking forward to both the challenges and rewards that it will present. “This is an exciting opportunity and a great fit for me,” says Hanlon. “I’m looking forward to getting to know our customers and helping to make the plant run to its fullest potential.”
