April 2006 - Off and Running <-Go Back
It has been a busy year – both challenging and exciting – as we have all been working hard to get NewStream off the ground. We’re thrilled to be bringing you, our customers and colleagues this first edition of the NewStream newsletter. On a quarterly basis, we will be bringing you timely articles in such areas as:
Of course, we hope that you find the newsletter to be informative and helpful. If you have any questions about any of the information presented – or just want to know more, please do not hesitate to call us anytime.
For those who aren’t aware, NewStream LLC, a unique environmental services company specializing in industrial wastewater management is now accepting non-hazardous wastewater from off-site sources at its state-of-the-art facility, conveniently located between Boston and Providence.
Originally built for the Texas Instruments Sensors & Controls division, the 30,000 square foot plant and one million gallon outdoor tank farm has the capability to receive waste streams by truck or rail and treat up to 800 gallons per minute of wastewater from a wide variety of off-site sources, including but not limited to environmental remediation projects, manufacturing processes, auto wash and service facilities, laundry and dry cleaning facilities, power plants and construction projects. The facility can also accept and treat hazardous and non-hazardous wastewater from both existing and new tenants on the 261-acre Attleboro Corporate Campus, currently being redeveloped by Preferred Real Estate Investments, Inc.
One of the most exciting aspects about the facility, in addition to its advanced treatment capabilities, is its enormous flexibility. With one million gallons of holding capacity, plus a variety of pre-treatment, multi-media filtration and advanced treatment options, we can configure the system to treat just about any waste stream imaginable, and to extremely high water quality standards.
NewStream took over operation of the plant in March of 2005 and hired most members of Texas Instruments’ former environmental services group. The NewStream crew has more than 125 years of combined experience operating the facility. All operators are fully licensed and 40-hour HAZMAT certified.
We would like to extend thanks to Texas Instruments officials and State Senator Scott Brown for their support in getting NewStream up and running. We also want to commend those at the Mass Department of Environmental Protection and the City of Attleboro; they all worked hard to guide us through a very complex permitting process.
We invite you to come and tour the facility. We know you will be not only impressed by the technology, but also by how clean and well maintained the plant is. Just call or email John Theriault (508-236-6001, johnt@newstream.biz to make an appointment).
New Tank Farm Allows for Automated Batch Treatment
A new 80,000 gallon tank farm is currently being installed on our premises. This is an exciting addition to the NewStream facility because it will enable us to provide automated batch treatment for each individual waste stream, thereby optimizing treatment for that particular stream.
While the original design of what is now the NewStream plant was to accommodate a large continuous flow of wastewater, the installation of these eight new 10,000-gallon tanks is part of our effort to adapt the facility for smaller batch treatment processes.
The primary advantage to the tank farm system is the guarantee that each and every load arriving at the plant will receive optimum pre-treatment to remove a large bulk of contaminants prior to being equalized with other waste streams. The tank farm allows for greater cost efficiency and in general, better control of the treatment process.
Ultimately, each waste stream will receive a unique treatment program, determined by our state-of-the-art computer system – when a load is received, operators will plug in the waste profile number to the programmable logic controller (PLC) and automatically treat the entire batch. This method will eliminate operator error and provide for better control over chemical dosage rates, mixing speeds and times.
Automated batch treatment works with a variety of different treatment processes, including gravity clarification, chemical oxidation, dissolved air flotation and even biological treatment methods, such as a moving bed bio-reactor (MBBR).
New Primary Financial Stakeholder in NewStream
We’re excited to report that Al Tucci, a well-known leader in the environmental industry has recently become a primary financial stakeholder in NewStream.
Tucci, whose experience in the environmental services and waste oil recycling industries spans more than 40 years, is the founder and Chairman of the Board of Cyn Environmental Services, a family owned and operated business headquartered in Stoughton, MA. Cyn Environmental Services is considered New England’s largest waste oil recycler.
According to Tucci, whose career in the environmental waste oil recycling industry began when he was in high school, “I believe New Stream is committed to expanding and improving the technology of wastewater treatment by utilizing resources to further research, test and develop new innovations which will benefit the environment as water quality regulations become more stringent.”
Tucci said he shares NewStream President Sam Butterfield’s “vision of the company becoming a beneficial and cost effective outlet to more and more generators who are looking for an alternative to treat wastewater.”
“Having an industry leader like Al Tucci as a partner can only expedite the already growing success of what we believe will be the premier wastewater treatment and recycling facility in the northeast,” said Butterfield.
Cyn Environmental Services will avail many of its services, including its certified laboratory facilities to NewStream LLC.
NewStream Staff at Industry Events
Over the next several weeks, members of our staff, including President Sam Butterfield, Vice President of Operations John Theriault and Jessie Hanlon, Marketing Director will have the opportunity to attend two important industry events.
On April 18, staff members will participate in the Massachusetts Water Resources Conference in Boxborough. This inaugural event, hosted by the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, the Massachusetts Office of Technical Assistance, the Metropolitan Area Planning Council and the 495/MetroWest Corridor Partnership will bring together leaders in the water and wastewater management industries to address a number of important issues. Session topics will include new technologies for greater water efficiency, water reuse for commercial, residential and recreational purposes, management practices for industries and the regulatory environment.
NewStream executives are also looking forward to the 18th annual EnviroExpo, to be held this year on May 2-3 at the World Trade Center in Boston. Recognized throughout the environmental services industry as a premier informational event that draws environmental cleanup, compliance and remediation professionals from the construction, industry and government sectors, the 2006 EnviroExpo is being held in conjunction with the Land Development Conference, a symposium that attracts professionals responsible for land and community development.
The expo and conference is expected to feature more than 200 of the country’s leading suppliers of environmental and land development products and services. Program highlights will include remediation strategies, compliance and regulatory management, the impact of changing climate conditions and natural resources concerns.
The NewStream team is excited being a part of both these industry events and pleased to have these opportunities to showcase the company’s environmental services. The NewStream staff hopes to see many of their clients and colleagues at the MWR Conference and EnviroExpo and hopes you will help spread the word about our presence.
Discounted tickets have been made available to us for those interested in attending the May 2-3 EnviroExpo, so be in touch and we’ll make sure you have a chance to participate in this stellar event.
